Pokhara—Senior Nepali cartoonist Durga Baral aka Batsyayan has been felicitated in Pokhara on Saturday. Pokhreli Yuwa Sanskritik Pariwar including other 31 organizations felicitated Baral in a formal ceremony organized on the premises of the famous Bindhyabasini Temple.
Earlier, a public rally with Baral and his family members began from Barals’ residence in Nadirpur and reached the venue. Baral who was born in Pokhara- 13 Arva of Gandaki Province is going to turn 81 on Sunday. He is a member of a middle-class peasant family and lost his mother at the age of 3.
He contributed satiric cartoons to different media houses and now works with Kantipur Publications. He played a big role to develop Pokhara as a watercolor school. He also played an important role to develop photography and bodybuilding art in Pokhara. He opened an Eagle Eye Art Studio some 5 decades ago in Pokhara and remained busy in artworks and photography.
Baral organized more than 4 solo art exhibitions and got more than a dozen of awards and felicitations. Baral thanked the organizing committee for recognizing him as a prominent artist. Author Sarubhakta and poet Tirtha Shrestha also put their remarks during the felicitation program chaired by PYSP president Upendra Paudel.
