Pokhara—Hindu devotees all across the globe are marking the Hari Bodhani Ekadashi, one of the biggest Ekadashi today. Haribodhani Ekadashi is also known as Prabodhini Ekadashi, Devotthan Ekadashi, Thuli Ekadashi or Devthan.
On this day Vishnu wakes from his monsoon month’s slumber, the end of the four-month period of Chaturmas when god Vishnu is believed to be asleep in Chhir Sagar, and marriages are prohibited during this time of his cosmic sleep. The day is It is also known as Kartiki Ekadashi and Kartik Shukla Ekadashi which is followed by Kartik Poornima. It is the 11th lunar day in the bright fortnight which is Shukla Paksha of the Month Kartik, the 7th month of 12 months’ BS calendar.
Devotees worship Lord Vishnu and Tulsi on this day by fasting and taking holy dips in rivers and ponds from early in the morning. It is the wedding day of Tulasi (basil) planted in Ashadh Shukla Ekadashi or Hari Shayeni Ekadashi. People gather on the banks of rivers and ponds to celebrate the Thuli Ekadashi festival today. Household materials, handicrafts, and garments are traded in the festivals. Colorful flowers and tiny household materials attached with a long thread is set above the river on behalf of the main devotee.
