PM recommends dissolution of House of Representatives, proposes new election date

By Rup Narayan Dhakal : Pokhara—Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has recommended dissolving the house of representatives of the federal parliament today. PM Oli also proposed a new election date for Baisakh 23 of 2077 BS with President Bidya Devi Bhandari.

Some of the leaders have termed Oli’s move regressive, autocratic and unconstitutional but the existing constitution is unclear about the dissolution of the house. The main opposition Nepali Congress also flayed the PM’s take.

Earlier, PM Oli has called an emergency meeting of the council of ministers. The meeting had decided to recommend the dissolution of the house of representatives. It is believed that PM Oli who is also a chairman of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) took this move as he faced a series of hurdles from his party leadership.

Updated 3.58 PM : Finally President Bidya Devi Bhandari approved the PM Oli’s recommendation and dissolved the house. President Bhandari also announced the new election dates for April 30 and May 10 .
