Pokhara tourism preparing for service resumption

Pokhara—Tourism entrepreneurs from Pokhara have come up with a preparation to restore the hard-hit tourism business following the ending of 120-long lock-down that was triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic. Paschimanchal Hotel Association Pokhara (PHAP) has urged its member entrepreneurs to gear up hospitality service as the government announced that the hotel and restaurant sectors to be opened from July 30, 2020 and the domestic as well as international flights resume from August 17, 2020.

PHAP chairman Bikal Tulachan issuing a press statement told its member hotels to begin services from upcoming tourist season. September, October and November fall are covered in upcoming tourist season. The PHAP also has asked its hoteliers to train their staffers as per the service opening protocol prepared for tourism sector during this Covid time. There are all total 18374 Covid-19 cases so far in Nepal and 12947 have already recovered. 44 people have been killed from this disease in this nation.

At the same time, a formal training has just been wrapped up in Pokhara for the first time during this Covid-19 pandemic. Nepal Tourist Vehicles Association (NTVA) organized a training program for its staffers and workers. Nepal Tourism Board promoted the program and it was assisted by Pokhara Tourism Council (PTC). Addressing the program Gandaki Province’s Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment ministry’s Visit Year Coordinator Juddha Bahadur Gurung said that the Gandaki Province has faced the losses of 133.4 million rupees daily due to the Covid-19. He also made clear that the hotel sector covers the 75 percent of these losses. According to him, some 30 tourist businesses have been covered within this evaluation.

NTVA chairman Bobar Jang Gurung said that the training covered the subject matters of health security and hospitality skills for the staffers and workers. He added that the training is the preparation of service resumption of tourism sector in Pokhara. PTC chairman Chirinjivi Pokhrel suggested all the entrepreneurs to promote domestic tourism before jumping to the international market.
