Pokhara—The prime accused of Tikapur carnage Resham Lal Chaudhary has been sworn in this afternoon in Kathmandu. Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara administered the oath of office and secrecy to Chaudhary who is in judicial custody for his alleged involvement in Tikapur murdering.
He was brought to Agriculture Committee meeting hall at Parliament House in Singh Durbar via police van from Dillibazaar jail. He took oath in Tharu language. His wife Ranjita and son also at present in the ceremony where speaker Mahara offered garland to Chaudhary.
At the same time, Rastriya Janta Party leaders offered him Khada. Earlier, the sworn in ceremony was fixed for 11.30 am in the morning but it was postponed for 3 PM due to parliament meeting and as Chaudhary’s arrival was fixed for later. It has been learnt that the swearing in ceremony took place following the pressure from RJP that warned government of withdrawal from the government.
Chaudharay was elected from Kailali province number 1 in the house of representatives’ election happened last year. He had garnered 34341 votes against then CPN-UML candidate Madan Kumari Shah who bagged 20935 votes less than Chaudhary.
Chaudhary is in custody for his alleged involvement to accelerate the February 19, 2016 Tharu agitation that is thought to be the responsible of the killing of 1.5 year infant and eight security personnel. He has been in judicial custody for 10 months following his surrendering in the court. Chaudhary has been sent back to jail after swearing in.
