20 persons killed in Nuwakot mini truck plunge

Kathmandu–At least 20 persons have been killed when a mini truck they were travelling veered off the road at Ghyangphedi in Dupcheshwor Rural Municipality- 1 of Nuwakot on Friday evening. 15 of the injured are being treated in Kathmandu base hospitals. The identity of all deceased is yet to be known.

According to municipality chief Yobindra Singh Tamang, 18 persons were killed on spot while two other on the way two hospital. Three of the deceased are female. The truck was heading for Sishipu of Dupcheshwor Rural Municipality-1 from ward number 7 Simtang. Passengers were going back to their home after taking part in a program called Ghewa.

Nepal Police, Nepal Army, Armed Police Force’s personnel, local people and government staffers had reached to incident site for rescue operation. The incident sites situates some 40 km far from district headquarter Bidur and rescue operation faced hurdles due to night time.

The ill-fated truck had plunged some 500 meter down to the Tadi Stream from the road. More than 40 passengers were travelling the truck, informed District Police Office Nuwakot DSP Bhim Lal Bhattarai. The incident happened as the truck went back as it was trying to taking pick up in steep uphill.
