Prachanda unveiling peace monument today in Sikles

By Rup Narayan Dhakal : Pokhara—Nepal Communist Party (NCP) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda is unveiling a peace monument established in Sikles of Kaski district this evening today.

Sikles, which is situated in the elevation of 2,000 meter from sea level, is also known as the departure point of decade long civil war of Nepal. Then CPN- Maoists top leader duos Prachanda and Dr. Baburam Bhattarai had ended their underground life in that village from where they were airlifted to Kathmandu to talk to then Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala. Then Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula had reached Sikles with a chopper to take top leaders to Kathmandu on 16 June, 2006.

For the memory of this crucial turning point, Madi rural municipality including villagers have formed that monument. This monument is the symbol of peace that formed following the talks between then CPN- Maoist and government of Nepal. Madi Rural Municipality chairman Bed Bahadur Gurung informed that more than Rs 1 million has been invested to make that monument. Villagers also had worked in free of costs to form that monument which was sculptured by Narad Hartamchhali Kalang.
