Host Sahara knocked out in opening match

By Rup Narayan Dhakal : Pokhara—Defeating host Sahara Club Pokhara 3-0 in opening match, Sudur Paschim 11 has entered the quarterfinals of 16th Aaha Rara Gold Cup Football Tournament began here in Pokhara Stadium on Tuesday.

Dhan Bahadur Thapa, man of the match Mani Ram Chaudhari and Rakesh Hamal contributed 1 goal each for tourist team to oust host from the pre-quarter final match. Last year Sahara had defeated Sudur Paschim-11 4-0 in opening match. Dhan, Mani and Rakesh did contributtion in 25 minute, 78 minute and 90 plus two minute. Bijay Shrestha of host team missed so many golden chances of making goal during the match.

Addressing a post match conference, Sahara’s coach Kiran Shrestha said that the main reason behind his team’s defeat was the fresh and local players. Winner team coach Suresh Hamal said that his team didn’t play good game however made score one after another. Anyway I am proud of my players, he added.

A total of 12 teams including teams from India and Bangladesh are taking part in the tournament that lasts on 3 February, 2018. Winner team will bag Rs 701,000 while runner up Rs 351,000, informed host team chairman and tournament coordinator Keshav Bahadur Thapa.

Pokhara Lekhnath Metropolitan City Chairman Man Bahadur GC inaugurated the tournament that was mainly sponsored by Himshree Foods Pvt Ltd. Sikkim United India will take on Dharan FC on tomorrow’s match.
