Pokhara—Speakers of an orientation program agreed in a point that the professionalism in agriculture sector can only alleviate the poverty of Nepal, on Friday in Pokhara.
They also stressed on need of new technology and production method, identification of the source of raw materials, marketing, branding and competitiveness in agriculture sector. An orientation program on Innovative Approach to Promote Agribusiness was jointly organized by Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and Nepal Agribusiness Innovative Center (NABIC) in Pokhara.
Speaking in the program, NABIC Executive Chief Bhusan Shah said the urban centric economic activities could be expanded to the rural areas if the farmers’ goods could get the market. He also informed that his organization has been consulting and coordinating for the professionalization of agro sector. Shah expressed his dissatisfaction over the rising trend of junk foods and processed foods instead of promoting traditional foodstuffs.
PCCI Chairman Bishwo Shankar Palikhe said that the Nepal’s economy is dominated by agriculture is only a proverb as the production of food grains still follows the traditional methods. According to Chairman Palikhe, the government policy on agro loan is unpractical and guilty as the loan must be paid within the period of five years even though the interest rate is five percent.
Poultry entrepreneurs Rajendra Adhikari and Tej Bahadur Bhattarai, PCCI executive member Narendra Bastola, fishery entrepreneur Lachhin Gurung expressed their views during the program that was hosted by PCCI General Secretary Damu Adhikari. PCCI Agro Subcommittee coordinator Yedu Nath Adhikari thanked all the participants during the program.
