88 Kg of gold seized in Kathmandu

Kathmandu—Police have seized 88 kilograms of gold from Chhetrapati of Kathmandu today. The gold that was said to be smuggled via Kerung border point was seized along with the driver of a vehicle in Rasuwa, informed Metropolitan Police Office Kathamndu SSP Rabindra Dhanuka.

The seized gold costs more than Rs 430 million. Police also arrested driver Manoj Adhikari, 24 of Makawanpur. According to police the gold was seized from a Tata Safari- Ba 17 Cha 6427 at Chhetrapati where the vehicle was being parked at around 2 am last night. The gold in biscuit size pieces were wrapped by plastics. The gold was brought to sell in Nepal and India.

This is said to be a largest amount of gold ever trafficked illegally to Nepal from China or abroad. Kerung border point has been using to traffic gold illegally for years.
