By Rup Narayan Dhakal: Pokhara—Western Regional Hotel Association (WRHA) Pokhara all set to begin a five day long Chaliye Pokhara (let’s go to Pokhara) campaign in northern Indian cities from June 30.
The Nepal Tourism Board supported campaign is named Border Town Sales Mission that is going to cover Patna of Bihar, Lucknow of Uttar Pradesh and Gorakhpur, informed WRHA Pokhara Chairman and campaign coordinator Bikal Tulachan.
A grup of 30 members including tourism entrepreneurs from Pokhara and Lumbini regions, NTB officials and journalists would conduct a press meet, business to business (B2B) meeting and promotional activities under the campaign with Indian tour operators, entrepreneurs and journalists.
It is hoped that the campaign will be helpful to uplift the Nepali tourism industry that was hard hit by devastating earthquake, Indian embargo, demonetization, Tarai agitation and various strikes. According to chairman Tulachan, the issue of connectivity and sustainable tourism are some of the key focuses that Nepali side wishes to address in the context of promotion and tourism development this time.
The campaign had been formally commenced in 2012 during the tenure of Hotel Association Nepal’s central member and the advisor of WRHA Pokhara Biplab Paudel. Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Kanpur, Varanashi, Ilahabad and Faijabad were confined in the earlier campaign of Chaliye Pokhara.
Promotion of Pokhara and its surrounding including whole Nepal in Indian cities, invitation to Indians to visit Pokhara and the publication of tourism packages among the Indians are some of the objectives of this tour.
There is around 40 degree Celsius temperatures in above mention Indian cities these days so; entrepreneurs from Pokhara wish to offer the hospitality to Indians in pleasant weather and normal temperature of Pokhara. As per the statistic, 1/3 of total tourists who visit in Nepal are Indians.
