Pakistan—At least 150 people were killed when an overturned oil truck burst into flames in Pakistan on Sunday, international media report. People had reached to collect leaked fuel following the truck accident but the tragedy happened as the oil caught the fire.
Other 140 people were wounded in the accident. Mohammad Baqar, an official with local rescue services said that the death toll may rise to higher number. Local television channels televised the flames and black smoke including burned bodies. Army helicopters airlifted the wounded to the hospital and rescue officials were frantically working to save the wounded.
The tragedy happened on the eve of the Muslim holiday of Eid Fitr, which marks the last of the fasting month of Ramadan. While Saudi Arabia and most other Muslim countries celebrated the holiday Sunday but Pakistanis will celebrate that festival on Monday.
The tanker was coming from the southern port city of Karachi and going to Lahore, the Punjab provincial capital, when the truck went uncontrolled and met with an accident on the national highway near Bahawalpur.
