Pokhara—Ninth Kaski district level Rastrapati Running Shield tournament has kicked off in Pokhara today.
Inaugurating the championship, organizer Kaski District Sports Development Committee (KDSDC) Chairman Khaga Raj Paudel said that the tournament would be helpful in the development of Nepali sports.
He also urged the government to forge a strong sports policy to develop the infrastructure in sport sector. He also stressed on the investment in the sport sector to produce skillful athletes by investing in young players.
Deputy District Education Chief Dipendra Dhakal talked about the importance of sports and education and added that the sports help to make everybody a disciplined person.
About 1,000 students from different 47 students are taking part in the tournament that would be ended on May 28. The tournament includes athletics, volleyball, Kabaddi, taekwondo and Karate.
Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyalaya Pokhara became first in March Pass held during the tournament’s opening chaired by KDSDC vice chairman Khagendra Sherchan. Likewise, Hill Point HSS and Gorkha English Boarding School became 2nd and third respectively in March Pass.
