Pokhara—A total of Rs 4 millions have been collected for the treatment of lyricist and musician Suk Gurung who have been suffering from kidney disease for few years.
A committee that was formed to support Suk Gurung has organized a cultural show in Pokhara City Hall on Wednesday to collect some funds. The program was inaugurated by Pokhara Health Science Foundation Chairman Dr. Buddhi Bahadur Thapa. Dr. Thapa pledged free treatment on behalf of foundation as Gurung gets kidney transplant. Nepal Government has announced free service on dialysis and kidney transplant but the working document is yet to be finalized.
Gurung is the lyricist of Chhekyo chhekyo deurali danda, Dosh kasailai dina chahanna, Bhaitikama, Aakhaima jhala jhali including other popular songs. He had felt his life was about to end as he toppled became blind some two years ago and came into sense after nine days of unconsciousness. Now, Gurung hopes that he will get well soon by the love and support from millions of his supporters.
Supporting committee coordinator Jagan Gurung informed that the committee has collected the double amount Rs 4 million, more than they expected Rs 2.2 million. The funds have been collecting from Nepal and abroad for few weeks. Tamu Dhi Nepal president Ms Karma Tamu offered Bhangra and Ghalek to lyricist Gurung and his spouse Juna Gurung respectively wishing their good days. Singers Karna Das, Binod Baniya, Gyan Bahadur Thapa, Dhan Bahadur Gurung, Narjung Gurung, Rubi Gauli, Ajuda Thapa, Shanti Gurung, Santosh Basyal, Santa Bajracharya, Tilak Gurung and Sagar Shah performed Suk Gurung’s songs and others during the show.
Rs 14,13,660 that was collected in UK from Sudha Gurung initiated campaign, Rs 1,29,000 from Tamu Dhi and its sister wings, 111139 from philanthropist Sarita Gurung including other handed over to supporting committee during the event at City Hall where comedian Dipak Thapa and cultural group of Himali Sanskritik Pariwar also performed their skills.
