Pokhara—Gandaki Province Government has forwarded its preparation to implement the Internal Tourism Year 2019. According to Gandaki Province Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment Minister Bikash Lamsal, the program would be formally opened form the first week of coming February.
In this context, his ministry has organized an interaction to collect the suggestions from tourism entrepreneurs of Pokhara the day before. Entrepreneurs have answered the 8 questions regarding possible slogan of ITY, possible attractions of logo, existing five attractive tourist destinations of Gandaki Province, five possible new destinations of this province, three major problems that pokhara visiting tourists have been facing and the solutions of problem, priority of province government for ITY 2019 and the discount pattern of ITY tourism packages.
According to Nepal Tourism Board Gandaki Province officer Surya Thapaliya, such suggestions would be collected from all 11 districts of this province. Addressing the interaction program, minister Lamsal said that the ministry will come up with a campaign of Namaste, which is the most popular greeting terminology among the Nepalis, to make the ITY a grand success. Besides, training to taxi drivers, Nepal police and other tourism related workers will be provided during the program. Similarly, Namaste Gates would be formed in Ramdi and Muglin of Nepal. Namaste desk also would be formed in Tribhuvan International Airport.
The province government is going to announce the ITY at a time when federal government is preparing for Nepal Tourism Year 2020 that expects 2 million tourists. Similarly, the province government is to celebrate 2020 as a tourism year focusing on the tourists from neighboring countries. The ongoing budget of Gandaki Province had covered 2022 as a regional tourism year that also expects 2 million tourists in Gandaki Province alone. To make success to those entire programs, the province government is taking the proposals from various villages to form homestays in 300 villages of this province. Rs 30 million budget has been allocated for that purpose but according to minister Lamsal, only 156 proposals have been received so far.
