Pokhara Street Festival begins in Lake City

By Rup Narayan Dhakal : Pokhara–The 20th Pokhara Street Festival has kicked off in Lake City on Friday. Gandaki Province Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung opened the festival organized by Restaurant and Bar Association Nepal (REBAN) Pokhara.

A cultural rally with various ethnicity groups marched on the street of Lakeside before reaching to Komagane Park which is also a program venue of the festival that lasts on January 1, 2019. Cultural groups from various districts, waiter race, boat race in Phewa Lake, food festival, duet and folk songs; and children park are some of the attractions of the festival.

According to REBAN Pokhara chairman and festival coordinator Budha Raj Bhujel, the festival aims to develop Pokhara as a destination of Christmas and New Year celebration. At the same time, chief minister Gurung said that the street festival is an unique and Pokharali’s own event.

Similarly, REBAN Pokhara former chairman Surya Bhujel termed the street festival as a largest festival of South Asia. Pokhara Tourism Council Chairman Chirinjibi Pokhrel stressed on the need of Pokhara promotion in collective way.
