UNITRAV, ANTWU postpone agitation programs

Pokhara—Clinching four point understanding with stakeholders, the Union of Trekking, Travels, Rafting, Airlines Workers Union (UNITRAV) Gandaki and All Nepal Tourism Workers’ Union (ANTWU) Kaski have differed their agitation programs that were declared against the advance payment system on meal in some of the areas of popular Annapurna Region of Gandaki Province.

Holding a press meets on September 27, 2018, the unions had declared six-point agitation programs that comprised baring tourists from entering the Annapurna Region from October 8 including workers’ service halt. As per the understanding, the local tourism committee of Tadapani Kaski will restore the previous payment system from October 9 and the respective hotel and lodge will receive the payment from own counter instead of taking payment beforehand offering a coupon from a common entry point of the village.

Similarly, the problems existing in trekking areas of Annapurna Region and Manaslu Region would be resolved till mid of February, cooperating with Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) and the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation. Likewise the postponement of all agitation programs of UNITRAV and ANTWU is mentioned in agreement number 3; and the request and welcome to domestic and foreign tourists to visit Annapurna Region, developing the secured, respectful and long-run tourism in that region are contained in point 4, informed UNITRAV Gandaki’s Chairman Bijay KC.

Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment Ministry Gandaki Province, Tadapani Tourism Development Committee Kaski, Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) Western Regional Association Pokhara and ACAP and Tourist Police are the signatories of the understating clinched on Sunday in Pokhara.
