UNITRAV, ANTWU urge to quash the prepaid coupon system in meal in Annapurna Region

Pokhara : Union of Trekking Travels Rafting Workers Nepal (UNITRAV) and All Nepal Tourism Workers’ Union (ANTWU) Kaski jointly announced six point strike programs against the prepaid coupon on having meal for tourists, their guides and supporters in some of the places of Annapurna Region of Gandaki Province.

Organizing a press meet today, UNITRAV warned that it would stop trekkers from entering the Annapurna Region if the demands are not met. UNITRAV Gandaki Chairman Bijay KC urged the hotel and lodge owners of Annapurna Region to stop the prepaid coupon system and apply the previous system of paying bill in the hotel counter after having meal.

According to KC, hotel and loge owners and their committees from Tadapani and Deurali of Kaski, Manaslu Region of Gorkha and some of the sections of Annapurna Circuit have imposed prepaid system in meal effecting from September 17, 2018. So, the UNITRAV and ANTWU Kaski have said that they will stop tourists to trek in the Annapurna Region from October 8 if their demands are not fulfilled.

Likewise, press meet on September 27, tourism workers’ service halt and information relay to stakeholders from October 1, locking a padlock in Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) Western Regional Association Pokhara office and return order to tourism workers if they go to trekking from October 3 also are the points of struggle of the workers.

Similarly, UNITRAV will padlock entry permit issuing counter of Annapurna Conservation Area Project office and will stop tourist from going to trekking in Annapurna region if the demands are not fulfilled by the Annapurna Sanctuary Tourism Entrepreneur Committee (ASTEC) including TAAN WRA Pokhara and respective government offices. UNIRAV and ANTWU have demanded to obey the understating clinched between UNITRAV, TAAN WRA Pokhara, ASTEC and government representatives.
