Pokhara—India has agreed to give the two-way air access to Nepal from the sky of Biratnagar and Janakpur in eastern Nepal and Mahendranagar in the far west. As of now, Simara and Tumlingtar have been used as the entry points to Nepal to the planes that come through the Indian sky. The agreement came out following the three day meeting held between the aviation officials of Airports Authority of India and Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal in Nepal.
Mahendranagar, Bhairahawa, Janakpur and Biratnagar air points have been used for the departure to Indian sky from Nepal. Bigger plane are not allowed to enter Nepal from those points as they are one way points. Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal Deputy Director General Rajan Pokhrel informed that the Mahendranagar point would be useable only for middle class regional level flights in the case of entry to Nepal.
The Indian side also has agreed to conduct the detail technical evaluation by Sept 2018 to allow the entry from Nepalgunj and Mahendranagar air point to the planes that fly in higher sky and will be landing at Pokhara Regional International Airport, Gautam Buddha International Airport and Nijgadh Airport. It has been hoped that the agreement would come into effect within a year.
