Case lodged against 63 accused in 33.5 kg gold smuggling

Kathmandu—Office of the Attorney General Morang has lodged a writ petition against 63 accused for allegedly involving in the case of 33.5 kg gold vanishing and the killing of Sanam Shakya of Biratnagar, in Morang District Court today.

A total of 29 accused including former DIG Govinda Niraula, SSP Dives Lohoni, SP Bikas Raj Khanal, DSP duos Prajit KC and Sanjay Raut, SI Balkrishna Sanjel and Constable Bishnu Bahadur Khadka were presented in Morang District Court today. 37 other fugitives including mastermind Chudamani Upreti aka Gore also are in the list of 63.

Office of the Attorney General, Morang has accused the Gore group of smuggling about 38 quintal gold to Nepal from Tribhuvan International Airport since 2015. The case filed by Office of the Attorney General in Morang District Court today claims that Rs 17,018,000,000 should be retrieved  from Gore group.

The smuggling case had taken new twist as the dead body of gold trader Sanam Shaky, 35, of Urlabari-7, Morang found. Nepal Police Headquarter Naxal had given a letter to Metropolitan Crime Branch Chief SSP Lohoni informing him that he was no more in his responsibility on April 5. Following the order of Home Ministry. Same happened in the case of KC and Sanjel too. On January 23, 2018 smuggled 33.5 kg gold that came from Dubai in Flydubai aircraft had come out of Tribbhuvan International Airport and went vanished.

A high level committed led by Home Ministry joint secretary Ishwar Raj Paudel was formed to probe the case of 33.5 kg gold smuggling and the killing of Shakya including other.Nepal Airlines loader Prem Raj Chaudhary who was arrested in the case of gold smuggling had committed suicide in police custody. Similarly, Thai Air technician Sanu Ban, 55, was also died in TIA during a fuel tanker hit.
