Pokhara—Rs 50 million have been proposed to install 500 Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in the key junctions of touristy town Pokhara. Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) has been holding series of meetings with various institutions of Pokhara to forward the plan of CCTV camera, for weeks.
According to PCCI chairman Bishwo Shankar Palikhe, the idea of CCTV cameras came to fulfill the dream of Pokhara as a smart and secured city. PCCI has already hold meetings with industrialists, businessmen, bankers, goldsmiths, transportation entrepreneurs, IT entrepreneurs, liquor entrepreneurs and objective associations under PCCI, informed PCCI general secretary Damu Adhikari.
Almost all the persons who took part in the discussions are said to be positive to install CCTV camera under the public private partnership concept in Pokhara. PCCI however has asked Pokhara Lekhnath Metropolitan City (PLMC) Office to take initiation to bring the dream of CCTV camera with night vision true. Stakeholders have suggested PLMC and PCCI to install cameras considering the matter of sustainability, continuity, repairing and well management. PLMC Mayor Man Bahadur GC said that the issue of CCTV camera was very important element to turn Pokhara as a smart and secured city.
Kaski’s Chief District Officer Tara Nath Adhikari said that the issue of CCTV camera should be forwarded as one of the result orientated tasks. He also informed that the Ministry of Home Affairs has also come up with a concept of CCTV installation in various cities of Nepal. District Police Office Kaski Chief SP Ashok Singh said that the CCTV cameras would be helpful to investigate various crimes in techno savvy manner.
City Development Bank CEO Bishwo Mohan Adhikari pledged that they were ready to help the campaign of CCTV cameras’ installation in Pokhara. Stakeholders also advised to extend the CCTV Camera installation tasks in branch roads and inner settlements of Pokhara following the installation in key junctions of Pokhara. Few years ago, a dozen of CCTV cameras had been installed in Lakeside alone but they are not working now. Amarsingh Chowk, Prithvi Chowk, Mahendrapul, Ghairapatan also saw such cameras but they are also facing same fate.
