Gorkha—Nepali Army athlete Khagendra Ranabhat won the title of Liglige King on Monday in Gorkha.
The race was organized by Liglig Bikas Abhiyan in Palungtar of Gorkha and Ranabhat completed the stipulated 13.5 km distance from Chepeghat to Ligligkot. He completed the fixed course in 62 minutes to put on crown in his head.
Chief guest Sports Minister Rajendra Kumar KC also handed over Rs 50,000 Ranabhat including the crown. At the same time, Nepali Army’s athlete Ramji Basnet secured second position completing the course in 63 minutes. He received Rs 30,000 as prize money. Similarly another Armyman Anish Basnet finished third to receive Rs 20,000.
A total of 117 runners took part in the race. According to Abhiyan vice chairman Saroj Devkota, the race is going to be promoted as tourism product. He also urged the government to allocate budget to promote the Liglig race.
