Recentfusion.com—Nigeria: Witnesses and officials said that at least 60 people were killed as the roof of a crowded church collapsed onto them in Southern Nigeria on Saturday.

They were actually worshippers and they were worshiping in the Reigners Bible Church International in Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom state. The Church was still under construction and the construction workers were busy to give final touch during the Saturdays ceremony to ordain founder Akan Weeks as a bishop, congregants said.

Dozens of people and Gov. Udom Emmanuel, were inside when metal girders crashed onto worshippers and the corrugated iron roof caved in, witnesses said. Hoever, Emmanuel and Weeks, who preached that God will make his followers rich, remained unhurt.

Rescue workers took out bodies of 60 victims and the death toll has been expected to be rise. The governor’s spokesman, Ekerete Udoh, assured that the state government will hold an investigation and punish the culprit who is responsible in the poor design of church.

In 2014, 116 people were died when a multi-story guesthouse of the Synagogue Church of All Nations collapsed in Lagos. Such case is a kind of trend in Nigeria because of the poor structure that causes the corruption.
