Recentfusion.com–Kathmandu: Narendra Shrestha became the president of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) in Kathmandu on Monday. The 15th general assembly of ANFA elected Shrestha through its first ever voting. Shrestha defeated Karma Tshering Sherpa by 36 votes to 31. A total of 67 votes were cast.
The Asian Football Confederation had directed to hold ANFA elections for president and vice-president after FIFA slapped a 10-year suspension on disgraced former president Ganesh Thapa on corruption charges. Likewise, Mani Kunwar was elected as vice president defeating his closest rival Deepak Khati. Former national team footballer and coach Upendra Man Singh was another vice president candidate.
The vice-president post was remaining empty after the death of Lalit Krishna Shrestha, who had died over a year ago. Newly-elected president Shrestha said he would work impartiality to make ANFA a strong and fair sports body.
