Hospital fire kills 20 in Bhubaneswar

Recentfusion.com—Bhubaneswar: Hospital fire in Bhubaneswar of Udisha state killed at least 20 people. The fire started in the intensive care unit of SUM hospital and spread to other nearby areas, local police say.

The cause behind the accident is yet to be disclosed but officials believe the fire erupted due to electric short circuit. Most of the people died because of smoke inhalation. Injured were taken to the hospital and PM Narendra Modi said he was “anguished” by the firing.

More than 100 people were said to be injured. They have been admitted to several hospitals at Bhubaneswar and the medical college in Cuttack, informed health secretary, Arati Ahuja. PM Modi says in his tweet: Deeply anguished by the loss of lives in the hospital fire in Odisha. The tragedy is mind-numbing. My thoughts are with bereaved families.

There was a case that in 2011, 89 people were died in a fire that broke out in a hospital in the eastern city of Kolkata.
