Recentfusion.com—Pokhara: Tourism related organizations from Pokhara strongly opposed the proposed transportation regulation that might hinder domestic tourists to travel in the green number plate tourist vehicles.
Issuing a press statement today, 15 different tourism related organizations cautioned the government not to forward such controversial regulation that will bar the Nepali tourists to travel in tourist vehicles.
The entrepreneurs urged to scrap such clause that discriminates domestic tourists when travelling by the means of transportation they opt. Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport has forwarded the draft of regulation regarding transportation to Law ministry to forge a new regulation, according to ministry, that will curb the rising number of road accidents.
If the ministry forwards and imposes such controversial provision, the rights of commuters to travel the vehicle they choose will be violated, the statement read, the government should be cautious over the proposal.
The release also adds that domestic tourists have been choosing the tourist number vehicles as they are safe and comfortable to travel by, for years but if the proposal is converted into law that would fuel the syndicate. According to entrepreneurs, the tourism industry would be collapsed if the proposal be implemented.
The entrepreneurs have suggested the government to consult with respective experts and stakeholders before amending any regulations and law.
Recent tourism law recognizes the Nepali nationals as tourist but the transportation law recognizes only foreigners as tourists. In this existing controversy, tourism entrepreneurs and transport entrepreneurs have been wrangling over years. In a time when Nepal is going to celebrate Visit Nepal Year (Ghumphir Barsha), this law will one of the worst provisions against the tourism of Nepal, if it is implemented.
The statement has been signed by the representative of Pokhara Tourism Council, Western Regional Hotel Association Pokhara, Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents, Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal Western Regional Association Pokhara, Restaurant and Bar Association Nepal Pokhara, National Tourism Promotion Committee and National Tourism Council.
Similarly, Pokhara Tourism Revival Committee, Nepal Air Sports Association, Embroidery and Garment Association Pokhara, Trekking Equipment Shop Association Pokhara, Tourism Transportation Committee Pokhara, Hotel Representative Society Pokhara, Tourist Bus Association Nepal, Civil Society Pokhara, Community Service Center Baidam, Village Tourism Promotion Forum Kaski’s representatives and NTB former member Agni Kandel also are the signatories of the statement.
