Pokhara—The third Annapurna Marathon and Sanctuary tourism festival kicked off in the touristy village of Ghandruk on Wednesday. Gandaki Province lawmaker Prakash Baral inaugurated the event jointly organized by Annapurna Sanctuary Tourism Committee (ASTC) and Ghandruk Tourism Management Committee.
Ram Bahadur Pariar who has been supporting the cleanup cleaning up of Ghandruk for more than 13 years was felicitated in that program. On the last day, a marathon championship is to be held from Annapurna Base Camp to Ghandruk. Basketball and volleyball competition are also the parts of the event.
That marathon and festival were being organized to mark the Annapurna Summit day- 3rd of June 1950 when French climbers Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal successfully scaled Mt. Annapurna, informed ASTC chairman Lalit Gurung.
