By Rup Narayan Dhakal: Pokhara—Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) Gandaki and Dordi Rural Municipality (DRM) jointly carried out the exploration and development of a new and alternative trekking route in Nepal’s Lamjung district.
The 3-night 4-day route begins from Ilam Pokhari of DRM and goes through Lipe Hill (3100m), the highest point of the route, and ends in Nauthar Shera following the overnight camping in Damrang of the same rural municipality. Ilam Pokhari and Dhauthali could be the possible camping points for the first and second nights respectively.
Ilam Pokhari (pool), Ilam Devi Temple, rhododendron forests, Lipe Hill, mountains like Annapurna, Manaslu, Bauddha Himal, Himal Chuli, and Dr. Harka peak, Dhunge Sanghu, Goru Jure hill, Damrang Pokhari, cave, and historical Khulal, Pandey and Ghale forts including flora and fauna are the major attractions of this route.
According to TAAN Gandaki Chairman Dharma Raj Panthi, there are so many sheep shelters along the route, and trekking on this route could be a new taste for foreign and domestic trekkers. DRM Chairman Yuba Raj Adhikari said that the route could be extended up to 9 nights and 10 days and the DRM would work on it in 2nd phase of exploration in near future.
TAAN Gandaki’s first vice chairman and program coordinator Krishna Prasad Acharya informed that the new route could be an alternative to dozens of world-famous trekking routes which have been swallowed by motorable roads.
TAAN executive member and program joint-coordinator Deepak Raj Sapkota, NMA Gandaki Chairman Shes Kanta Sharma, DRM vice chairman Bichha Bahadur Ghale, and tourism entrepreneur Bobar Jang Gurung are hopeful about the future of this newly explored route.
