Pokhara—Nepal Airsports Association (NAA) Pokhara is all set to host the 20th Nepal Open paragliding Championship 2022 from 6 of April. The three-day-long event will take place in Sarangkot and Pokhara. Sarangkot is a popular hill station for sunrise, paragliding, and other tourism activities.
According to program coordinator Balram Acharya, the championship covers different 7 categories which all will focus on accuracy landing. Overall accuracy landing, female solo landing, overall team accuracy solo landing, overall accuracy tandem landing, overall team tandem landing, overall air-show, and best custom show performance are among the categories. The champion in an overall category will bag Rs 50,000. Likewise first runner up, second runner up, and the consolation prize winner will get Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000, and Rs 10,000 respectively, informed technical committee vice-chairman Anil KC.
NAA Pokhara Chairman Krishna Bhandari expects that the championship will help to promote sports tourism in Pokhara. Likewise, Nepal Tourism Board Gandaki Manager Nabin Pokhara said that Pokhara is famous for natural beauty and adventure activities that will help to promote Pokhara in the domestic and international markets. Similarly, jury committee coordinator Yogesh Bhattarai also talked about the future of Pokhara paragliding in the context of under-constructing Pokhara International Airport. He also informed that some 100 participant pilots will take part in the championship.
