By Rup Narayan Dhakal : Pokhara—Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) Western Regional Association Pokhara Monday has felicitated the six Nepali women who successfully scaled the Annapurna I, creating history as the first Nepali women who stood atop this mountain (8091m) last Friday (April 16).
Photo Journalist Poornima Shrestha, Vice-president of Nepal Mountaineering Association Maya Sherpa, Dawa Yangjum Sherpa, Pasang Lhamu Sherpa, Dabhuti Sherpa, and Sharmila Syangtan Tamang are among the successful climbers. Dawa and Dabuti missed the felicitation program in Pokhara as they left for Kathmandu before being held the felicitation program. Jaroslaw from Poland who also climbed this mountain was also felicitated at this moment.
Priyanka Mangesh Mohite from India also scaled Mt Annapurna that day to become the first Indian woman to scale one of the 10 tallest mountains in the world. This is also the first summit of the spring season this year in this mountain. A total of 67 climbers scaled this mountain that day alone.
Annapurna Rural Municipality Myagdi, Federation of Nepali Journalists Myagdi, and local people also felicitated those Nepali female climbers in Myagdi last Monday. According to TAAN WRA Pokhara Chairman Sushil Raj Poudel, his organization felicitated the climbers for their achievements that created history in the sector of mountaineering of Nepal. The Annapurna I falls in Annapurna Rural Municipality (ARM)- 4 Narchyang of Myagdi district and it was first climbed by French mountaineers Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal in 1950 June 3rd, three year before the successful climbing of Mt Everest, the tallest mountain in the world.
Chief Guest and ARM Chief Dam Bahadur Pun, Bimal Kandel, an officer of Nepal Tourism Board Pokhara, Domestic Tourism Restoration Committee Gandaki Coordinator Agni Kandel, Pokhara Tourism Council Chairman Gopi Bahadur Bhattarai, climbers duo Poornima and Maya shared their views and experiences during the felicitation program in Pokhara.
