Poornima Shrestha scales Annapurna I

By Rup Narayan Dhakal–Pokhara—Photo Journalist Poornima Shrestha has scaled the Annapurna I today. The 8091m high this mountain was first scaled by French mountaineer Maurice Herzog on 3 June 1950

Journalist Shrestha had already reached the top of Mt. Everest (8,848.86m) which was first scaled three-year later in 1950, June 3. Shrestha was a member of climbers from Seven Summit Treks. She scaled Mt. Manaslu in 2017 and Mt. Everest in 2018.

Besides Shrestha, vice-president of Nepal Mountaineering Association Maya Sherpa, Dawa Yangjum Sherpa, Pasang Lhamu Sherpa, Dabhuti Sherpa, and Sharmila Syangtan Tamang are among the successful climbers.

29-year-old Shrestha was born in Aarughat of Gorkha district. Gandaki Province Government had supported Rs 0.8 million to Shrestha for her mission. Likewise, Annapurna Rural Municipality (ARM) of Myagdi district also supported Rs 0.5 million to her. On March 7, 2021, ARM Chief Dom Bahadur Pun farewelled Shrestha and her team.
