By Rup Narayan Dhakal : Pokhara—The 22nd Pokhara Street Festival has been kicked off in Pokhara on Wednesday. Gandaki Province Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung inaugurated the three-day-long festival at Lakeside.
Organizer the Restaurant and Bar Association Nepal (REBAN) Pokhara limited this festival from regular five-days to three-days due to the Covid- 19 pandemic, informed festival Coordinator Basanta Gautam. According to Gautam, beach volleyball, tennis and boat race will be some of the attractions of the festival.
The festival is being organized within the street of three kilometers of Lakeside. The festival will occur from 3 pm to 10 pm every day but the time will be extended up to 12 pm on New Year day. To make Pokhara a destination for the New Year celebration is the main motto of the festival. Varieties of foods will also be served by the restaurants during the festival.
The festival contains four stages on the street and three welcome gates. According to REBAN Pokhara Chairman Laxman Baral, the festival aims to spread the message that Pokhara is safe, secure and open in spite of the Covid- 19 pandemic. Dozens of cultural rallies were organized before the opening ceremony of the festival. Gandaki Province Tourism Minister Bikash Lamsal, Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor Man Bahadur GC and Pokhara Tourism Council Chairman Gopi Bahadur Bhattarai also addressed the ceremony.
