Pokhara—With a slogan of Lifetime Experiment, Nepal Government has formally commenced the Visit Nepal 2020 campaign that aims 2 million tourists in 2020 AD. Gandaki Province Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung announced the program amid a formal ceremony held at Komagane Park of Lake City- Pokhara on Saturday evening.
Addressing the ceremony, CM Gurung vowed that his government is ready to support that national campaign to make that a grand success. The commencement of that program was carried out at a time when 16th Fewa New Year Festival 2076 BS is undergoing at that park.
The national campaign was formally commenced by Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Ministry when Gandaki Province is marking its own Internal Tourism Year 2019 and going to mark Neighboring Country Tourism Year 2020 and Third Country Tourism Year 2022.
Meanwhile, CM Gurung claimed that his province’s contribution in Nepal’s tourism has 40 percent and the province has put the tourist sector in first priority to prosper to his province. According to Nepal Tourism Board, more than 1.1 million tourists had visited Nepal in 2018.
During the opening ceremony, Gandaki Province Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment Minister Bikash Lamsal stressed on the need of proper infrastructures for the development and promotion of tourism sector.
Similarly, Visit Nepal 2020 program coordinator Suraj Baidhya informed that three women each from Nepal, India and China are going to scale Mt. Everest soon on the occasion of that campaign. He further added that the campaign will be helpful in adding the investment and employment in the sector of tourism.
Tourism secretary Mohankrishna Sapkota said that tourism sector contributes Rs 70 billion in total revenue of Nepal. NTB executive member and Visit Nepal 2020 program implementation committee member Biplab Paudel, Visit Nepal 2011 coordinator Yogendra Shakya and entrepreneur Dibyamani Rajbhandari also put their views during the program.
