By Rup Narayan Dhakal: Pokhara—On the occasion of Chaite Dashian, the Barahathok Tamu Youth Pariwar (BTUP) is to organize a Sisteni Mela on the banks of Rupa Lake on March 29 to 31.

Sisteni which is a village near Rupa Lake is a venue of famous traditional festival that has been happening in every Chaite Dashain for years. According to BTUP immediate past president Subedar Tul Bahadur Gurung, the promotion of Rupa Lake and the restoration of the decades-old festival are the key objectives of the festival.

Thousands of people used to throng in Sisteni Mela where they used to sell and buy clay utensils, agriculture related tools, bamboo, and household goods. Fun games and cultural shows were also the attractions of this festival. Baby dolls, candies, ice creams, and whistles were could be seen at the festival.

Moreover, ward-level men’s volleyball tournaments, shotput competitions, and tug of war also will be the attractions of the festival, informed BTUP advisor Chandra Gurung. The volleyball winner, first runner-up, and 2nd runner-up team will bag Rs 60,000, Rs 30,000, and Rs 15,000 respectively.  

BTUP chairman Fasel Bahadur Gurung, Shanti Rupa Barahathok Mothers Group president Bel Kumari Gurung, Shanti Rupa Barahathok Tamu Society chairman and festival coordinator Captain Buddhi Bahadur Gurung also answered the quires of scribes during the press meet, held in Pokhara on Tuesday.

Shanti Rupa Barahathok Tamu Society, Shanti Rupa Mothers’ Group, Rupa Youth Club, and Naulo Tara Club will back the festival that expects expenses of Rs 0.4 million, informed fund collection committee joint coordinator Tul Bahadur Gurung.
