Pokhara—Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman K P Sharma Oli stressed the need for a national consensus government. Discussing with news editors, PM Oli requested all the parties to join the government led by him to deal Covid- 19 pandemic more effectively.

Oli came up with this request as President Bidya Devi Bhandari has given time to form a new government as per article 76- 5 of Nepal’s Constitution by 5 PM today to political parties. When opposition parties are flaying President Bhandari and PM Oli’s move as the latter is not resigning from his post and his council of ministers wrote President Bhandari informing that he is not going to have a vote of confidence as per article 76- 4.

At the same time, PM Oli reminded the editors that Nepal’s president is in ceremonial role and she only could approve the documents submitted by the government. “This attack against President is the attack against republic,” PM Oli added, “Such attack is not acceptable in democracy.”

PM Oli also reminded editors that there is not any written provision of resignation in the constitution to form a new government as per article 76- 5. “I didn’t like to go for a floor test, so what do you do,” He said, I haven’t created hurdles to form a new alternative government. He asked the opposition parties to form a new government if they have the required numbers of votes.
