Pokhara—A total of 8 teams are to take part in the 19th Aaha Rara Gold Cup Football Tournament which is going to be held from April 3 to 10 in Pokhara Stadium. One of the teams will be from overseas in the tournament that includes Manang Marshyangdi Club, Nepal Police Club, Three Star Club, APF Club, Sankata Club, organizer Sahara Club Pokhara , Machhindra Club and African Association, Daula Cameroon.
According to SCP General Secretary Ramji Prasad Adhikari, the champion team will bag Rs 1 million and the runner-up will get Rs 0.5 million cash prize. Last year, a total of 10 teams had taken part in the tournament and Manang Marshyangdi Club had thrashed Nepal Police Club in the final battle.
SCP Chairman Keshab Bahadur Thapa informed that the best player of the tournament will be awarded as the best national football player 2077BS including Rs 35,000 cash and certificate this time. At the same time, five other title prizes will also be distributed in the memory of late lawmaker Surya Bahadur KC who passed away about five months before. KC founded Himshree Foods Pvt. Ltd. is the main sponsor of the tournament.
The club has expected Rs 2.8 million savings from the tournament and that saving will be invested for Sahara Academy where 24 poor children from 14 districts have been studying and learning football with accommodation. The academy was established some 7 years ago.
