By Rup Narayan Dhakal : Pokhara—President Bidya Devi Bhandari inaugurated the 13th South Asian Games (SAG) at Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu this evening. The stadium saw fireworks and glittering extravaganza as President Bhandari pronounced the beginning of SAG.
The SAG is to be continued until December 10 in three cities – Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Janakpur among the athletes from seven South Asian nations. The inauguration ceremony was kicked off with the march-past by athletes, officials, with a cultural gesture that evening.
Players from from Nepal, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Bhutan and Sri Lanka will be competing in 26 various sports in the games.
More than 2000 athletes will compete for 1119 medals, including 319 gold, in 26 sports disciplines during the 10-day games. At the same time, badminton competition has been started in Pokhara Stadium this afternoon.
Nepal’s men and women team beat Bhutan and Bangladesh respectively. Likewise Nepali National women volleyball team is busy in rehearsal at the football ground of Pokhara Stadium.
