By Rup Narayan Dhakal—Pokhara: The by election for a total of 52 posts is undergoing in 37 districts of Nepal today. The by election is being held to choose the member of House of Representative, province assemblies and local units.
According to Election Commission, the polling began at 7 am and ends at 5 pm. Disable people, pregnant women, postpartum women and elderly people have been given priority in poling stations. A total of 337 candidates from various political parties and independent side are vying for various posts.
There are 32 poling places and 82 poling centers for House of Representative. Similarly, on the side of province assembly, 78 poling places and 174 poling centers have been arranged. Likewise, 137 poling places and 281 poling centers have been managed on local unit side.
Eligible people taking part in the election of house of representative in Kaski province number 2. Bhaktapur 1(1) , Baglung 2(2) and Dang 3(2) also are holding province assembly by election. Similarly Dharan Sub-Metropolitan city will also elect its mayor in this by election.
Security personnel have been deployed in and around the poling centers. Most of the shops are closed and roads seem deserted. At the same time, 32 poling places and 82 poling centers of Kaski district also are having by election today.
The by election happened in Kaski as tourism minister Rabindra Adhikari from this district was killed in a helicopter accident. A total of 21 candidates from 11 political parties and 10 from independent side are vying the election in this district. 71871 persons are eligible to vote in Kaski 2 that covers ward number 4, 7, 8, 9, 11, 15, 16, 17, 20, 21 and 33 of Pokhara Metropolitan City.
At the same time, IEDs in three places went off near the poling centers of Kaski 2 as voting were undergoing. Pokhara- 33 Baghmara’s Sarswati Tika Secondary School poling place, Pokhara- 9 Nayabazaar’s Nava Prabhat Secondary School poling center and Pokhara- 16 Shanti Secondary School poling center saw the explosions. Regional News Desk Gandaki of Nepal Police has reported no injury and human casualty following the explosions.
