Pokhara—Paschimanchal Hotel Association Pokhara (PHAP) has started the preparation for 16th Fewa New Year Festival 2076 that is to be held at Komagane Park in Lakeside from April 12 to 14.
According to festival coordinator and PHAP chairman Bikal Tulachan, the festival will mainly focus on Nepali culture, foods and music. Gandaki Province is now celebrating the Internal Tourism Year 2019 and the festival is to be marked one of parts of that program.
More than two dozens of selected typical Nepali foods including foods from Gandaki province would be the major attractions of the festival. Similarly, cultural tableau competition, dance competition, boat race, tourist race and pop concerts as well as program of the duet songs also are the parts of the festival.
Preservation of Nepali dishes and cultures are the major motives of the festival, informed PHAP immediate past president Bharat Raj Parajuli in a press meet organized in Lakeside on Thursday. Fewa Lake, which is the major attractions of the Pokhara has been encroached and polluted day by day, so the conservation of that lake is another concern of the festival.
The festival will see the expenses of some 6.5 million rupees. Around 1 lakh visitors have been expected in the festival which is supported by Hotel Association Nepal and Gandaki Province government. The festival is being promoted by Nepal Tourism Board.
According to information, there are some 600 hotels in Pokhara and 60 percent of the occupancy has been covered by the domestic guests. People from major cities of Nepal celebrate Gregorian calendar New Year with full of joy, so in this context, PHAP is going to mark this Nepali New Year in same spirit. According to PHAP general secretary Ganesh Raj Pahari, PHAP soon is going to restore Jaun Hai Pokhara (Let’s go to Pokhara) camping before starting the festival in Pokhara.
