Tikapur carnage prime suspect Resham Lal Chaurdhary slapped lifetime imprisonment

Pokhara—The District Court Kailali has slapped lifetime imprisonment to Resham Lal Chaudhary who is known as the prime suspect of Kailali carnage, on Wednesday. The single bench of Justice Parshuram Bhattarai has convicted a total of 11 persons including Chaudhary in the same case.

Chaudharay was elected from Kailali province number 1 in the House of Representatives’ election happened last year. He had garnered 34341 votes against then CPN-UML candidate Madan Kumari Shah who bagged 20935 votes less than Chaudhary.

Chaudhary is in custody for his alleged involvement to accelerate the February 19, 2016 Tharu agitation that is thought to be the responsible of the killing of 1.5 year infant and eight security personnel in Tikapur of Kailali. He has been in judicial custody for 1 year following his surrendering in the court on 26 February, 2018.

Chaudhary has been sent back to jail after taking oath of lawmaker on January 3, 2019. Following the district court verdict, as per the article 87 of Nepal’s constitution Chaudhary’s lawmaker post would be scraped but article 90 says that the only Supreme Court is able to decide the final fate of Chaurdhary’s post.

Similarly, Hari Narayan Chaudhary, Rajkumar Katharia, Sundarlal Katharia, Brijmohan Dagaura, Ranajesh Chaudhary, Pradeep Chaudhary, Sitaram Chaudhary, Sraban Chaudhary and Gangaraman Dagaura are other suspected of the Tikapur carnage.
