Pokhara—Finance Minister Yubaraj Khatiwada Friday asked the local and provincial governments not to hike tax rates hurriedly. Addressing a 32nd convention of Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) at Pokhara Exhibition Center, minister Khatiwada suggested local and provincial governments to collect tax only guarantying the utilization of collected tax.
Saying that the tax collection is necessary to maintain security and to carry out development works in the country, minister Khatiwada asked tax payers not to protest taxation. He also informed that the government is going to establish some tax offices in developing municipalities. Khatiwada also claim that the government is trying to simplify the tax system and to create the investment friendly environment in Nepal. ‘Some of the motivational programs for tax payers are also on pipeline,’ He added.
He urged the tax payers and tax officers to have a transparent manner during the period of tax payment and collection. Minister Khatiwada also said asked the private sector not to think the government as their competitor. According to him, the government only facilitates private sector but doesn’t interfere it. He also informed that the government is going to organize a investment summit with in a period of six months, forging some important laws related to taxation.
