By Rup Narayan Dhakal : Pokhara—Nepal Shito-Ryu Seikokai Karate Association (NSSKA) Chairperson Sushma Gurung and her team are developing a karate training hall with a dream of Karate Academy in Pokhara.
The construction work has been financed by the US based Himalayan Foundation Corp (HFC). HFC had organized a musical concert called Nepali Musical Festival 2018 at Oakland Metro Opera House in San Francisco on July 14, 2018. Nepali singers Anju Panta, Raju Lama and the Axe Band were the main attractions of the festival that collected around Rs 7 million as charity. From this amount, HFC chairman Yagya Lal Shrestha had handed over USD 30,000 to association chairperson Gurung to build that training hall at Chauthe of Pokhara Metropolitan City- 14.
According to chairperson Gurung the training hall is first of its kind built by a NGO in Pokhara. The building is being built in a direct observation of Mr. Fatta Bahadur Gurung who is the founding chairman of that association and is also a chief coach of Karate that he has been practiced for more than two decades. Sushma who is the Black Belt 3rd Dan have also already participated in various international level karate championship held in India, Uzbekistan, Russia, Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, Germany, Finland, Austria and Czech Republic in the past and also got medals of all level.
According to Fatta, the training hall would be prepared within another two months. Karate players get chance of practice in this hall any season and time whether it is sunny or rainy day. 80 percent of the construction work has already been completed and karate players are eager to have training in this structure, said Gurung.
It has been projected the Rs 8 million budget to complete whole the project as a Karate academy. According to Gurung Rs 5 million have already been invested for the building and shortage of amount was fulfilled by the executives of NSSKA and its well wishers. Another Rs 1.5 million had already been promised by the chairman of HFC. “We are hopeful that the construction work won’t be halted by fund crunching,”said Gurung.
