Nepal Communist Party formed, CPN-UML, CPN-MC dissolved

By Rup Narayan Dhakal : Pokhara— Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist) and Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center)  formed a new Nepal Communist Party in Nepal on Thursday. An application has been registered in Election Commission to form a new NPC.

Addressing a press meet organized at Rastriya Sabhagriha, CPN Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said that the new party formation is the journey to justice, development, good governance and prosperity. ‘We are committed for nation building now,’ Oli said. He further added that there is no CPN-UML and CPN-MC any more now but they transformed into a single party.

Similarly, CPN another Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said that the unification is against nobody but for the National unity and prosperity. According to him, that unity is the fulfillment of promises done before the people few months ago. ‘Now the era of prosperity begins, he further said- and the instability has ended.

Earlier, NPC leader Madhav Kumar Nepal formally announced the six point manifesto of new party. Before that, both parties were dissolved by their respective center committee meetings that endorsed the unification decision taken by party unification coordination committee. KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal would jointly lead unified party as chairmen.

Similarly, a 9 member secretariat also was formed to command the party. Oli, Dahal, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhala Nath Khanal, Bamdev Gautam, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Ishwar Pokhrel, Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal and Bishnu Paudel are the members of the secretariat. The role of general secretary has been given to Paudel and Shrestha is the spokesperson of the secretariat.

The new party would have 441 members in center committee and 45 member standing committee. They also took the oath of their responsibilities that afternoon. The election sign of the new party would be sun. The first meeting of the unified party has taken eight decisions. The meeting that held at Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s official residence Baluwatar decided that the all the properties of both the former parties would belong to new party. A dinner party has been scheduled in Baluwater to celebrate the party unification this evening.
