Enlisting of Kohla Sothar in UNESCO World Heritage Site sought

Pokhara—Province 4 Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung urged the government to take initiation to enlist the Kohla Sothar, which is claimed to be an ancient settlement of Gurung community, in the world heritage site of UNESCO.

Addressing an interaction organized in Sikles of Madi Rural Municipality, Kaski on Friday, CM Gurung also vowed that he would recommend the central government from the side his government to enlist that place in UNESCO list. Calming that Kohla has 2000 years of Gurung language and culture’s history, CM Gurung called for the conservation, development and promotion of that place.

Province 4 Finance Minister Kiran Gurung stressed on the research, development and conservation of Kohla to meet the standard of world heritage site. Professor Doctor Jagman Gurung informed that the history of 12th century has been found in Kohla. He also said that the unwritten history of Kohla should be discovered and recorded. Gurung also submitted 25 point suggestions to Madi Rural Municipality for the conservation of Kohla.

The interaction was organized by Madi Rural Municipality and was participated by historian, culturists and experts from various walks. Similarly, local people, a team of Tamu Dhin UK and journalists also participated in the interaction. Tamu Dhin UK Chairman Gyam Gurung, Tamu Dhin Nepal president Ms Karma Gurung, Tamu Pye Lhu Sangh chairman Hitkaji Gurung, Tamu Hyul Chhon Dhin Chairman Resham Gurung and Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality Chief Karna Gurung also put their remarks in the interaction chaired by Madi Rural Municipality Chief Bed Bahadur Gurung.

Madi Rural Municipality deputy chief Bishnu Paudel welcomed all the invitees. This municipality consultant Naresh Paudel presented the report on Kohla that situates in the elevation of 3,330 to 4,200 meter from sea level. A part of Madi Rural Municipality, Kohla resides in the northeast part of Kaski district.
