Mogadishu—At least 274 people were killed when an unidentified group detonated a suicide truck bomb in Somalia Capital Mogadishu on Saturday. 300 other injured in the lorry explosion happened at a hotel gate in busy area.
According to BBC, It is the deadliest terror attack in Somalia since the Islamist al-Shabab group launched its insurgency in 2007. It is still unclear that who the mastermind behind the detonation is. However, Mogadishu is a target for al-Shabab militants battling the government.
President Mohamed Abdullahi “Farmajo” Mohamed has announced three days of mourning for the victims of the explosion. Local media report that the dozens of people gathered in the explosion areas on Sunday morning in search of their family member. It has been thought that the death toll may rise in the accident.
There are fears persons are trapped under the rubble. Police official Ibrahim Mohamed told AFP news agency the death toll is likely to go up. “There are more than 300 wounded, some of them seriously,” he said. Updated: Oct 16, 2017, 2.15 NST
