Pokhara—Roshan Gurung from Lamjung became champion in 10 Km race organized in the eve of third Sarangkot Festival, in Pokhara on Wednesday. Gurung finished the stipulated 9 Km distance in 37 minutes and 48 seconds. Similalry, Sandip BK from Pokhara Miruwa and Saroj Thapa from Pokhara Simpani secured second and third position respectively.
They completed the fixed distance in 38 minutes 30 seconds and 39 minutes 40 seconds. The winner got Rs 10,000 cash and a ticket of paragliding. Meanwhile, first runner up bagged Rs 7,000 and Zip flyer’s ticket while 2nd runner up Thapa got Rs 5,000 as prize. Three participants were given the consolation prize of Rs 1,000 each.
The race that was organized as mini marathon started from Baglung Buspark Pokhara and ended at the top of the Sarangkot hill. Assisted by Sarangkot Samaj Sewa Youth Club, the Smriti Youth Club and Sarnagkot Tourism Development Committee, the Sarangkot Tol Bikash Sanstha Coordination Committee would organize the Sarangkot Festival, informed committee secretary Sushil GC. Sarangkot is a hill station which is popular among the tourists who visit the hill especially for sunrise and sunset views. Elevated 1592 meters from sea level, the hill is some 15 minutes drive from touristy town Pokhara.
The festival is to be organized at Sarangkot top Deurali Patan from September 1 to 10. According to festival coordinator Kamal Thapa, the festival contains 50 stalls related to various businesses and services. Rateuli Songs, musical instrument exhibition and competition, tourist race, cultural and musical programs, artistes’ performances, presentation of typical tableau, children park, agriculture and handicraft goods’ presentation, Duna Tapari making competition and Sarang Sports show are some major attractions of the festival, informed Santosh GC who is the coordinator of promotion part of the festival.
