By Rup Narayan Dhakal : Chitwan—Tourism entrepreneurs from Pokhara distributed 4-truck of relief materials to Chitwan and Nawalparasi flood victims on 25 and 26 August. Pokhara Tourism Council (PTC) Natural Disaster Support Committee distributed such materials in Jeetpur, Parsa Bazaar, Golaghat, Madi and Patihani of Chitwan and Susta of Nawalparasi.
According to the committee Coordinator Ganesh Bahadur Bhattarai, they collected the relief materials from various tourism related organizations under PTC and from other tourism organizations as well as from tourism entrepreneurs of Pokhara. ‘Though Pokhara is safe from the recent flood and landslides, we fulfilled our social corporate responsibility by supporting the Tarai flood victims, Coordinator Bhattarai said, our support was like a consolation for our sisters and brothers who have been going through hard time for few weeks.
Rice, lentils, tents, blankets, school dresses, stationery goods are among the relief materials that were distributed by reaching to the proper victim areas, informed PTC Chairman Kedar Nath Sharma. The committee in coordination with local units ward chair and Chief District Officer of respective districts had distributed the relief materials especially in Chepang, Tharu and Kumal settlements that were hard-hit by the deluges.
In the name of Pokhara Tourism Revival Committee, tourism entrepreneurs from Pokhara had also distributed the relief materials to the victim of devastating earthquake that happened two year before in Nepal; again this time too, those entrepreneurs have succeed to collect a fund of rupees 2.4 million to support the victims of inundated Tarai settlements recently.
People from Tarai and Madhesh had extended their support to quake victim of hills but now, people from hills doing same to Tarai victim of floods. In this connection, Bharatpur Metropolitan City Mayor Renu Dahal said that she was thankful to the PTC and the member organizations under that committee and other supporters who reached Chitwan flood victim areas with the loads of relief materials.
According to PTC General Secretary Krishna Bhandari, they would reach other flood-hit areas of Saptari in east Nepal and Banke of west Nepal under their second phase of relief program in coming days. According to committee treasurer Ram Chandra Sharma, the fund was collected from PHAP, NATTA Pokhara, REBAN Pokhara, TESA Pokhara, NAA, EGA Pokhara, Book Shop Association, TTC, TAAN WRA Pokhara, Money Changer Association, Hotel Representative Society, NMA Annapurna Chapter, Rainbow Children, NARA, Quality of Life Nepal including other organizations and individuals. Chau Bahadur Gurung, Dil Gautam, Bikal Tulachan, Narayan Prasad Subedi, Goma Dhakal and Agni Kandel also coordinated to distribute the materials that were fetched to Tarai.
