Kathmandu–Govinda Acharya has been elected as a chairman of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), an umbrella organization of Nepali journalists, in Kathmandu today. Acharya’s pannel has bagged almost all the vital posts though the election saw mixed results in province’s and central committee member of the executive body of 47 members FNJ.
Acharya was a common candidate of an alliance of CPN-MC journalist wing Press Center Nepal and Nepali Congress journalist wing Nepal Press Union. Acharya garnered 732 votes to make a difference of 105 with his nearest rival Tirtha Koirala, who was the candidate from CPN-UML close Press Chautari, bagged 627 votes. Likewise, other candidates Ujir Magar got 54 votes, Indra Bahadur Raut 20 votes and Bhabana Bidrohi 6.
At the same time, Bipul Pokhrel in open vice president, Dilip Thapa Magar in inclusive vice chairman, Ramesh Bista in General Secretary and Ram Prasad Dahal in open secretary have also won the election. Similarly, Laxmi Pun in woman secretary, Uday GM in indigenous secretary, Shital Prasad Mahato in Madhesi secretary, Rem Bahadur BK in Dalit secretary, Prakash Thapa in Associate secretary and Rajesh Mishra in treasurer have also won the election.
Roshan Puri has been elected in Account Committee coordinator while Mira Rajbhandari and Bhupendra Acharya in the member of that committee. Satendra Jabegu and Uddhav Timilsina from Province I, Dev Ram Yadav and Sailendra Jha from Province II, Dwarika Kafle and Krishna Giri from Province III, Ram Krishna Gnwali and Nabin Kuikel from Province IV have been elected in the new committee of FNJ. From Province V, Basanta Giri and Purushotam Subedi, from Province VI, Kalendra Sejuwal and Purna Prasad Chaulagai, from Province VII, Min Bom and Uttam Bista/Shyam Bhatta(equal votes) also have been won the election.
Lekhnath Neupane and Govinda Chaulagai from Kathmandu Valley, Tikaram Pradhan and Yem Birahi from Prathisthan also are the members of new committee. The 25th General Convention of FNJ was kicked off on last Sunday in Kathmandu and the election was held on last Monday.
