Journalists’ polls undergoing in Nepal

Kathmandu—Hundreds of scribes are casting votes to choose their new leadership for the upcoming tenure in Nepal today. The 25th general convention of Federation of Nepali Journlists (FNJ) was inaugurated by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba the day before in Pragya Bhavan, Kamaladi.

The convention will choose a 47-member new committee for three years of tenure. Five candidates- Tirtha Koirala, Govinda Acharya, Ujir Magar, Indra Bahadur Raut and Bhavana Bidrohi are vying for the post of president.

Raut from CPN-Maoist Baidhya close Revolutionary Journalist Pannel, Magar in independent status, Archarya from the alliance of CPN-MC journalist wing Press Center Nepal and Nepali Congress journalist wing Nepal Press Union are asking for votes in the convention.

Likewise, Deepak Pathak, Matrika Paudel and Bipul Pokhrel are the candidate of the vice chairman (open) while Dilip Thapa Magar and Mahesh Das also are vying for same post towards inclusive category.

Ramesh Bista and Balkrishna Basnet are the candidate of General Secretary post. Krishna KC, Dilip Paudel, Nabin Raj Kuikel and Ram Krishna Gnwali are vying for the post of required two member of Province IV. 1449 out of 1509 councilors took part in the election. FNJ is an umbrella organization of Nepali journalists. The election that started 9 am ended at 6. Updated: 5.59 PM today.
