Six killed in Nepal floods

Pokhara—At least six persons were killed and six other went missing in Nepal’s flood. Itahari bazaar of Sunsari has inundated in flood triggered by incessant rainfall for more than three days.

The Gairigaun, Buspakr and Nepal Army Eastern Pritana Headquarter and surrounding areas are submerged in flood water. Around four hundred houses were swept away as Shera Khola and Budhi Khola water level went high.

Deceased are identified as Mala Shah, 30 of Itahari, Maya Rai, 32 of Bhojpur, her three years old son Rupes Rai and eight years old daughter Rupsani Rai, Anita Dhimal, 35 of Itahari and Ishwor Sunuwar, 40 of Itahari. Aasa Devi Rai, Ram Kumar Rai, Minesh Rai, Khusi Rai, Chanda Tamang and a nine years old baby girl.

They lost their lives as flood water entered their houses and swept the houses away. According to Acting Chief District Officer Rajesh Giri, the rescue operation is facing difficulties as there is water everywhere however they have asked Home Minister Janardan Sharma to manage a rescue team from central level.

The sirens have gone off as flood water cross the normal level in eight places of east and mid Nepal. Four members of family were buried when a house they were living collapsed in Sonari Rural Municipality- 4 Baijapur as the area faced the high level of Rapti flood water. According to District Police Office Banke, Kamilal Tharu’s wife including two daughters and one son were buried as the flood damaged their house. Three siblings were found dead under the house rubbles and their mum is still missing.
